Mount Ararat (Ağrı Dağı in Turkish) from west, on the road to Doğubeyazıt. Originally color slide, 1986.

A 4,200m dormant volcano, it is the resting place of Noah's Ark in the biblical story. As a result, periodically some nutcase expedition comes to search for the remains, much to the amusement of the locals.

Quadtone in Photoshop. Yes, the grain is intentional.

Thanks :) I tried to give it a bit of the atmosphere of the Japanese woodcuts of Mount Fuji.

A very atmospheric and beautiful shot. I hope the locals get some benefit from hosting the ship(ark) searchers ;).
I just read about this area from a Roman point of view when they were busy fighting Mithridates King of Pontus.

Oh, I am sure that they do, or at least they did. Nowadays, people might be preferring to do their expeditions on Google Earth.
